RE WALTER Gershenfeld's May 15 letter:

I agree with you 100 percent concerning the state of the 76ers. I am a huge Sixers' fan and am hoping they will be able to use their lottery pick to draft a power forward with rebounding and shot-blocking skills to complement Samuel Dalembert.

He should also be able to provide low-post scoring (Al Horford of Florida would be perfect). The next step is signing an all-star free agent next summer (they will have salary cap relief) capable of scoring 25-30 points a night.

Once those two pieces are in place, the Sixers will be a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.
