Letters | The Fourth Stooge?

On Aug. 8, Shaun Brady wrote: "He (Gary Lassin) bonded instantly with his grandfather-in-law Morris 'Moe' Feinberg, the brother of Larry Fine." That's misleading, suggesting there's a connection between his story's Moe Feinberg and Moe Howard of the Stooges and/or that Moe and Larry of the Three Stooges were brothers, which they weren't. He should have clarified that. Moe, Curly and Shemp were actually the Howard brothers. Larry wasn't fraternally related.

What has seen the greatest rise in Philadelphia Public Schools since the State has taken over:

A) Test scores.

B) Budget deficits.

C) Assaults on both students and teachers.

If the correct answer were A, the School Reform Commission would have something to shout about. But scores went up for three consecutive years. The budget deficit has grown exponentially, and assaults, based on this past year's media reports, appear to be at record levels.

Our legislators in Harrisburg call this success. I think we need to put local leaders in charge of our schools. It's time to take our schools back. How do we ask parents to be responsible for their children when we aren't responsible for our schools?
