Grid is good
TOMORROW IS THE FIRST DAY of the rest of the Delaware riverfront's life . . . and maybe the first day of a new era of civic life in the city.
TOMORROW IS THE FIRST DAY of the rest of the Delaware riverfront's life . . . and maybe the first day of a new era of civic life in the city.
That's when a plan for the central-Delaware waterfront will be unveiled to the public at the Pennsylvania Convention Center at 6 p.m. (Pre-register at planphilly.com/registration, or call 215-573-8720.)
This event represents a yearlong process that engaged thousands of citizens to think about the city and the waterfront of the future.
The process began last year, when an executive order signed by Mayor Street engaged Penn Praxis, an arm of the University of Pennsylvania, to bring together city residents with urban-planning principles to create a vision for the central Delaware. One highlight of that vision is extending the street grid to provide fuller access to the water. (Show up prepared to chant "Grid is good.")
More than a thousand people have registered to attend. That's a strong signal that people are tired of the old way business so often gets done in this town and want a voice in helping shape the city.
Add yours, and show up tomorrow. *
