Letters: Pointed critique of Vick support

LETTER-writers like Trek Jones irritate me no end. Why do so many people believe that just because a criminal serves his sentence, the public is supposed to forget about the crime he committed?

LETTER-writers like Trek Jones irritate me no end.

Why do so many people believe that just because a criminal serves his sentence, the public is supposed to forget about the crime he committed?

Why should I feel sorry that Mr. Jones was turned away by prospective employers after he served his sentence for drug dealing? How about this, Trey:

Don't commit crimes that can cause incarceration and give you a criminal record!

And, Mr. Jones, I loathe Martha Stewart and think she got off with a very light sentence - that just goes to show what fame, money and influence can do when you're on trial.

Mr. Jones, peruse some back issues of the Daily News or the Inquirer regarding the Brett Myers' wife-beating incident. There was plenty of outrage over that, particularly from women's groups. (How quickly and conveniently we forget these things.)

And I'm also disgusted by using the "They were only dogs" rationale to excuse what Vick did.

I'll wager that "only dogs" have contributed far more to society than Mr. Jones. Bomb- and drug-sniffing dogs, shepherd dogs, seeing-eye dogs, therapy dogs (and cats). Pets also can teach children about loyalty, responsibility and unconditional love.

And, Mr. Jones, I ask you:

How many lives were ruined by your drug-dealing? You probably have no inkling. Do you know if any of your customers overdosed? Went on a drug-induced rampage and harmed or killed people?

And, finally, to make my point, you need only to look at the articles written about Ted Kennedy. Sure, much of what has been written is laudatory. But these same articles remind everyone of his misdeeds as well as his accomplishments in government.

Even the fact that he cheated on a Spanish test while enrolled at Harvard University was mentioned - and that was over 50 years ago!
