Letters: Letter-writer clarifies responses

IAM LETTER-writer Harriet Brown, and I need to clarify some of the opinions that were printed in response.

First, I want people to know that I never said that Veterans Administration benefits, Social Security, Medicare or any other type of benefits were handouts. I worked all my life and paid into Social Security.

I did say that people who hold up signs saying, "stay out of my health care" are stupid because there was never any complaining when Bush ran this country into a ditch for eight years.

Now, all of a sudden people are getting death threats, being spit on and called a name that we black people have been called since the so-called Founding Fathers were around.

Yes, I did say what do they mean when they say "we want our country back"? Back from what? A president who isn't dumb, a president who has some brains.

I never saw anyone carrying guns or protesting or going to these meetings and saying make the South like it was.

Make it like it was? You don't have to go to the South. It is happening right here, when some dummy gets on a store microphone and says all black people leave the store.

I hate to tell you that black people spend a lot of money in stores, and I don't mean Family Dollar or Valuplus, either.

We contribute to the economy just like everyone else does. My ancestors were picking cotton for maybe $5 a week and had the masta's babies.

Putting a mustache on the president to look like Hitler, that's smart? Hitler had one thing in mind, and I think the Jewish people are well aware of it. (Did anyone see "Schindler's List"?)

My father fought in that war, so I am far from being stupid as to what is going on here.

And I worked at the VA hospital and took care of the veterans and fought the mistreatment that I saw - so before you answer my opinions, read very carefully what I say.
