Congratulations to Aaron Greberman for being named the Philadelphia School District's teacher of the year.

Greberman teaches technology and business at Bodine High School for International Affairs, a magnet school in Northern Liberties.

This is the third year in a row a Bodine instructor won the top teaching honor - a good indication that the school is doing something right. Credit in part goes to principal Ann Gardiner, who Greberman said sets high standards for teachers and students.

That's a good start in explaining Bodine's success. Last year, 89 percent of its students read at grade level and 84 percent achieved that standard in math.

The Bodine model shows that public schools in the city can succeed with the right leadership, and excellent teachers.

That formula isn't rocket science; in fact, it's a straightforward concept that must be replicated throughout the district.
