Letters: Lay off cheap shots against Palin

I READ Ronnie Polaneczky's column about the book on Sarah Palin and was disgusted at the viciousness and hatred that poured from each sentence.

I READ Ronnie Polaneczky's column about the book on Sarah Palin and was disgusted at the viciousness and hatred that poured from each sentence.

Polaneczky starts by saying "look who just got interesting." That a woman who ran for vice president, was a governor, and was a New York Times best-selling author, all while raising a family with a Down syndrome child, didn't get interesting to Polaneczky until nasty 25-year-old rumors come out about sex and drugs reveals a lot of ugliness in this writer.

I'm outraged at Ms. Polaneczky's article on Sarah Palin, basing her column on two "highly reputable" sources, Joe McGinniss and the National Enquirer.

As I read this salacious article, I could picture Polaneczky salivating over every word. As readers may remember, McGinniss moved in next door to Palin specifically to dig up filth to destroy her credibility and to ruin any chance of her running again for any elected office.

Having followed Palin on the political front, I can say with authority that she's never been a morals crusader. She has never portrayed herself as anything but a conservative. Perhaps it's the word conservative and the tea party movement with which she is closely associated that seems to disturb Polaneczky.

I'm so very sorry that we've come to this kind of character assassination as a way to destroy a bright and courageous woman.

D.C. smokers' delight

A relative who's a staffer on Capitol Hill mentioned that all members of Congress are allowed to smoke in their private offices, plus any staff who are there. Members who are big smokers always schedule their meetings in the offices of the smokers so that no one suffers nicotine withdrawal.

I find it remarkable that this is allowed. You can smoke outside the Capitol, but you must be 25 feet away. If you smoke in a bar/restaurant, hotel, resort, etc., you get fined or even arrested. I think that this is a remarkable inside story of our "Smokin' Congress."

I thought that all men are created equal. Obviously, I'm wrong.

Mayor Moron

Re Bloomberg and 9/11:

A pure case of a moron holding down elected office. Our hearts go out to the firefighters, police officers and first responders.

Your heroic deeds will always be in our hearts.
