Letters: Daily News mind-set mired in the hippie '60s

SOME THINGS are so predicable it's almost sad. My wife brought in Tuesday's Daily News and put it on the kitchen table. From across the room, I could see the blaring headline and the photo of some latter-day hippie. These "revolutionaries" are simply an updated collection of the homeless, the clueless and the worthless that the news media covered so breathlessly in the '60s. They'll have about the same impact that those dolts did.

Please - stop with Will Bunch and his meandering screeds!

Only black examples?

Re "The Philly Way":

While I don't disagree that opacity if not outright corruption is a systemic problem in Philadelphia politics (as it is in much of the world), and I don't take issue with any of the examples cited in Pat Haraburda's letter, I was disappointed to see that they all involved African-Americans. Perhaps tea-party "patriots" would like to explain that.

Wasted GOP votes

Gov. Corbett's plan to reallocate Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes so the winner of each congressional district gets the vote of that district has the effect of completely disenfranchising Philadelphia's GOP voters.

While there usually aren't enough Philadelphia GOP votes to lead to a GOP win in the city, those votes go to the total count of the state, and help push GOP candidates to victory despite the results in Philadelphia.

Under Gov. Corbett's plan, GOP voters in Philadelphia might just as well stay home!

Votes cast for the GOP candidate in Philadelphia are just wasted. This is grossly unfair.

Less Les is NOT more

I'm 27 and have been reading the DN for as long as I can remember. After one of the worst Sundays in recent Philly sports memory, the last thing this city needs is not being able to read Les Bowen's columns and to be denied his witty insights on "Daily News Live."

Every Monday, no matter how bad the Eagles choke, which seems to be the norm these days, I can always count on Les to let me know exactly what went wrong. I have a slight inkling to why Les ( the BEST Eagles beat writer in the city) didn't cover this game, but why add injury to insult to a rabid fan base that's suffered enough?

Please bring Les Bowen back as soon as possible, I don't know how long we can deal with Andy Reid's three minutes of throat-clearing, "I gotta do a better job" excuse for a press conference without Les to decipher it for us.

George W. Obama

The DN editorial about Dick Cheney's comments on President Obama defies all logic.

Where are the liberals and the media trouncing Obama for the killing of al-Awlaki in a foreign country? Seems to me that since Obama has kept all the Bush initiatives concerning the protection of U.S. citizens against terrorism, looks like we have a drop-the-bomb president instead of a shoot-from-the-hip one.

All these left-wing millionaires in Washington who know the truth about terrorism had the gall to crucify Bush, and now are silent like baby lambs.

Tony's al Qaeda fans

In a pre-dawn raid, American soldiers captured three top al Qaeda members. Every single one of them had Tony Bennett on their iPods.

Donk you very much

My name for the many-tentacled Democratic "animal" in Signe Wilkinson's Oct. 3 cartoon on "Philadelphia's independent judiciary": It's a Donktopuss.

The Mary-go-round

I'd like to thank the editor for defending my letter to Mary Ann Kueny, but I'd also like to add this:

I guess comparing my name to Mary Magdalene was your feeble attempt to try to insult me, but Magdalene's first name is Mary, so, in insulting me, you insult yourself.
