Letters: Mark Fiorino should hide his gun

LOOK AT the picture of Mark Fiorino in the Feb. 14 Daily News. That gun doesn't make him look like a big man. If the bad guys see your gun, no surprise to them; they will take your big new Glock to use with their cheap Saturday- night special .32. or .22.

. That gun doesn't make him look like a big man. If the bad guys see your gun, no surprise to them; they will take your big new Glock to use with their cheap Saturday- night special .32. or .22.

Hide your gun. Surprise is the best defense, old buddy. Do not give away your gun. What if someone is in trouble and thinks you are a police officer? Do you help them? You are not a cop.

Get on the force; then you can show off your gun all you want.

Have any poop-on?

All dog owners have had it happen where you're caught without a bag or your dog decides to go twice, but if you live in the city and you constantly let your dog drop pearls without picking them up, then you are a filthy pig, probably raised by filthy pigs, and your children will more than likely grow up to be filthy pigs!

If the city is in financial hardship, let it form a special task force, a "Poop Squad" to enforce existing laws and fine the "poopetrators"!

Nice words, deserved

Please extend my sincere thanks to Valeria Russ for her moving article on Malcolm X's visit to WDAS.

I really appreciate and value knowing the Philadelphia connections to those on the world stage who gave so much for us all.

I hope - and can only trust - that in all the changes coming your paper's way that you will continue to support the telling of these important stories.

Several years ago, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Signe Wilkinson during a book fair held at the Free Library of Philadelphia. It excited me to speak directly to her about the business of print journalism.

Recently, I attended a symposium, "Race and Media: Cartooning While White; Covering the Race Beat While Black," held in the Daily News/Inquirer conference room. Jesse Washington, the national writer on race and ethnicity for the Associated Press, and Wilkinson were the discussion leaders.

Once again, I was elated.

While Wilkinson's editorial cartoons portraying African-Americans in an unfavorable manner do not offend me, her years as the People's Paper editorial cartoonist have come with much controversy.

But, if an editorial cartoonist's drawings don't incite, insinuate or insult, one just isn't doing the job effectively. In that regard, I guess you could say that Wilkinson fulfills the requirements for her job amid great adversity.

I look forward to conversing with her again.

Sick and tire'd

Has anyone noticed that some idiot has been dumping tires all over Southwest Philadelphia? Many of the tires have been dumped on the 8400 block of Bartram Avenue. They are also dumping them on South 73rd Street, driveways, alleyways, on islands, and in the middle of the street. There has to be someone who has seen this idiot dumping tires.

Is it not bad enough that our streets are littered with trash? Do we have to contend with tires being dumped all over the neighborhood? What kind of person does this to other people's neighborhoods? I would like to send a message to the idiot dumping tires all over Southwest Philadelphia: You will be caught and, I hope, prosecuted.
