Letters: Phila. must drop DROP
ISSUE | CITY PENSIONS Drop DROP I'm beseeching Mayor Kenney and City Council to eliminate DROP from the city's pension program during the next round of negotiations with the unions ("DROP is still alive in Phila.," Thursday). A loophole in the program is draining the underfunded pension system while enriching a few employees. This needs to stop as soon as possible.

Drop DROP
I'm beseeching Mayor Kenney and City Council to eliminate DROP from the city's pension program during the next round of negotiations with the unions ("DROP is still alive in Phila.," Thursday). A loophole in the program is draining the underfunded pension system while enriching a few employees. This needs to stop as soon as possible.
Last year, the city wasted $136.8 million on DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Plan) payments. Just think what that money could have done for our cash-strapped school system or other worthy, underfunded programs. Shame on the mayor, Council, and the unions for letting this abomination continue.
