Right of the unborn is primary concern

In his commentary about Pennsylvania House Bill 1948, which would ban most second-trimester abortions and many others, David S. Cohen wrote: "When a woman goes to a doctor for an abortion, she has the moral and constitutional right to have the doctor determine the most medically sound method of treating her" ("Problematic abortion bill," Wednesday). How can the killing of an unborn child be a "medically" sound treatment? The "inviolate relationship between a patient and her doctor" is trumped by the inviolate right of the unborn to life.

A compassionate treatment of the woman would be to care for her during pregnancy. If she is not able to care for the child, a compassionate solution for the baby would be adoption.

Considering the ins and outs of the abortion bill is meaningless when the issue is really about the right to life of the unborn.
