Sadly, I know that such inhumane treatment of egg-laying hens is all too common in the industry.

Give up eggs

I watched and read about Mercy for Animals' disturbing footage from its recent undercover investigation of a possible egg supplier for Malvern-based Eggland's Best ("Activists allege cruelty by egg supplier," Thursday). Sadly, I know that such inhumane treatment of egg-laying hens is all too common in the industry.

The debate over whether two Briarwood Farms locations in Washington state are supplying Eggland's Best must not distract us from this fact: As consumers, if we want to be sure that we are not contributing to this cruelty, whether packaged as Eggland's Best or some other brand, the best thing we can do is keep eggs off our plates. With so many egg-free and egg-replacement products on the market, doing so is easier than ever.
