Re: "Palin defends 'terrorists' claim," yesterday:
Gosh, thanks to Sarah Palin I now understand that living in the same neighborhood as an old Weather Underground guy and actually being on speaking terms with him is proof Barack Obama is good buddies with terrorists who want to destroy America. Sure, the old terrorist's deeds were 40 years ago, when Obama was 8, but people never change, right? I know it's bad to look backward and point fingers and all that, but aren't you married to a guy who, for seven years, belonged to a radical group that hates America so much that it wants Alaska to secede from the union?

Possible regret
I liked and respected John McCain - until he started to run for president and to sound more and more like George W. Bush. Now, after hearing running mate Sarah Palin accusing Barack Obama of "palling around with terrorists," I am sure I will not vote for that ticket. McCain may come to regret condoning this line of campaigning. I also believe that being a conservative Christian, as Palin purports to be, involves more than taking an anti-abortion stance; certainly character assassination and lying are not acceptable.

Future question
I love how Barack Obama is focusing on every college he can find to get the vote of the young, the future of America, who have yet to go into the world and claim the rewards for which they are working so hard (while mom and dad are paying). I'd like to meet these young adults when they land their first jobs and a big chunk of their paychecks goes to health care. Let's see them try to afford their first apartment because a house is out of the question. Wait until reality hits home, and then tell me what a great job your "hero for change" did for you.

Falling stars
Perhaps this will be the year voters elect their choices and not the ones of "The Stars" ("As Springsteen sings, Obama's camp signs," Sunday). We the people don't need to be told how to vote by people who can sing or play a game. I'd rather take advice from an auto mechanic or a nurse - people with real-world experience and ideas.

Electoral flaw
That John McCain withdrew his campaign from Michigan further illustrates the unfairness of the Electoral College system. With this apparent concession, what point is there for Michigan Republicans to vote? I understand that the Electoral College was intended to preserve the rights of the small states. Now Michigan is being ignored. If we just count votes, then everyone's vote counts.

Fans want answers
I know that I am not the only Eagles fan disgusted with Andy Reid ("Birds knocked into deep hole," yesterday). His game-day play-calling and clock-management are now, and have always been, atrocious. I also am insulted he feels he doesn't need to answer questions at his news conferences.
"I'm not going to get into that now," "I need to do a better job of putting my guys into position to make plays," and "I take full responsibility for that" are his stock responses to questions he wants to avoid. Taking full responsibility is easy when there are no consequences. At the very least, he owes the fans an explanation for his ineffectiveness.

Water works
On Nov. 4, Pennsylvanians also will have the opportunity to vote for a measure to spend $400 million on the state's struggling infrastructure. Pennsylvania cannot afford to put off this essential task. Specifically included in the infrastructure bond referendum are grants and loans for projects related to water, sewers and stormwater. The EPA has estimated $20 billion is needed in this area alone. This referendum would allow communities to take the important first step in making improvements without being forced to pay much higher rates.
