Families can capture magic at Nature's Enchantment, Tyler Arboretum's newest exhibition, open this weekend through Oct. 31.

Nature's Enchantment offers 29 exhibits created by local and regional artisans, woodworkers, sculptors, potters, builders, and landscape architects, spread out over a one-mile route. Kids can begin their journey at the Mystical Orientation Station, with an interactive introduction to the exhibits' magical inhabitants.

Life-size areas include the Crooked Goblin Shack, a Troll Bridge, and a Gnome Depot. Families can construct faerie houses, gnome homes, and other "hobbitats" from natural products at the end of the exhibit.

In addition, there is an ancient unexplained door leading underground in this new area, which raises the question "What Lies Beneath?" Kids can write letters and poems to the arboretum imagining what exists behind the door.

Join Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center and Art in the Open Saturday along the Schuylkill riverbank for a family kite-making workshop in honor of National Rivers Month.

Art in the Open presents artists from around the country who will help families bring the creatures of the river to life in a hands-on workshop. From 2 to 4 p.m. on the decks of the Fairmount Water Works, families can use found materials and household items to create, build, and decorate kites. Additional family kite workshops are scheduled on June 19 and 26.
