Ceiling Texture

Things You'll Need:

Drop Cloth

Tape

Pre-Mix

Wide Brush

Drywall Knife

Trowel

Solution:

A sand finish is a nice texture for ceilings because it's a subtle finish and it can cover up a multitude of sins! Well, I can show you how easy it is to apply.

1. First step - protect, tape off the walls and cover flooring and fixtures with a drop cloth to keep any drips at bay

2. You can buy texture pre-mixed or as an additive I'm using the pre-mix. If you choose the other just make sure you follow the package instructions.

3. Apply the paint with a wide brush, in a random pattern.

4. Start by cutting in the sides. I use a wide drywall knife like this one to protect the outside wall and pull the brush from the edge in toward the center. Once you've cut in simply brush the texture onto the ceiling. I'm using a random cross hatch pattern to give depth, plus it's easier to do it this way than to try and get an even stroke.

5. Make sure that you have plenty of light where you're working so you can see any spots that have too much or too little sand.

6. If you would like a more intricate pattern on your ceiling, like the semi-circles that you sometimes see, use a trowel to apply the texture.

7. Once you're done, just finish it off with a couple coats of ceiling paint.
