Plant a Hanging Basket
Things You'll Need:
Wire Basket
Green Moss
Gloves
Potting Soil
Trailing Plants
Solution:
I just love hanging baskets in my garden. They add such great color and height to your landscaping. Your best bet for a hanging basket is wire; it gives you great support while letting green peek through the wires.
1. Soak green moss in water for about five minutes. Wearing gloves, squeeze any excess water from the moss and press it around the inside of the basket and just over the top to buffer your plants from the wire rim. You can find this moss at most garden centers and craft stores.
2. Fill the basket two thirds of the way full with a good potting soil. You don't have to worry about adding a drainage layer to a wire-hanging basket because the moss will allow the plant to drain freely.
3. Place trailing plants around the outer rim of the container so as they grow they'll cascade over the edge. Follow those with taller flowering plants in the center. Fill in any loose areas with soil and press it firmly into place, water your basket thoroughly
4. Finally, add a slow-release fertilizer spike. The soil's nutrients can be washed away through the moss when you're watering your plants. That's all there is to it.
