Amaechi able to cut it

TIMES ARE GOOD for John Amaechi. The former Penn State and NBA player, who last month acknowledged his homosexuality in his book, "Man in the Middle," now has signed an endorsement deal with a razor company.

TIMES ARE GOOD for John Amaechi. The former Penn State and NBA player, who last month acknowledged his homosexuality in his book, "Man in the Middle," now has signed an endorsement deal with a razor company.

HeadBlade Inc., announced yesterday the signing of Amaechi to a multiyear contract.

"John Amaechi is the newest face of the brand because he embodies many of the qualities representative of a HeadBlader," HeadBlade chief executive Todd Greene said. "He is a man comfortable in his own skin and he's not afraid to go against the grain."

Amaechi's book is currently on The New York Times best-seller list.

Good news

Phoenix Sun Jalen Rose donated $100,000 toward an operating room in a 300-bed hospital in the city of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is funded by former Sixer and current Rocket Dikembe Mutombo.

Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center, named after Dikembe's mother, got a check from Rose before last night's Suns-Rockets game.

Tough haul

There is no easy road to the Final Four, and being a ninth seed makes Villanova's attempt a pretty difficult one.

And check this out: Teams seeded ahead of the Wildcats in the West Regional include Kansas, UCLA, Duke, Indiana and Kentucky. Those five teams have combined for 28 national titles and 63 appearances in the Final Four.

A further look shows all the teams in the East Regional have combined for nine championships and 42 Final Fours; in the Midwest it's six and 21; and in the South four and 24.

For the record, 'Nova has one championship in three Final Four appearances. *
