Cable went 4-8 with the Raiders as interim coach after the firing of Lane Kiffin during the season.

Elsewhere: Recently fired Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Bob Sanders has joined the Buffalo Bills as defensive line coach. . . . Bob Sutton will remain on the defensive staff of the New York Jets. Assistant coaches Henry Ellard, Anthony Lynn, Dennis Thurman and Doug Plank were hired. . . . Houston tight end Owen Daniels was named to the Pro Bowl as a replacement for San Diego's Antonio Gates.

The Big Five will induct three members into its Hall of Fame on Feb. 13.

Jerome Allen of Penn, Curt Fromal of La Salle and Susan Moran of St. Joseph's will be inducted at a ceremony in the Donaldson Room at Penn's Weightman Hall.

The group will also be honored during halftime of the La Salle-St. Joseph's men's game at the Palestra on Feb. 14.

Kelvin Sampson, now an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks, confirmed he has appealed the NCAA's four-year coaching ban, stemming from more than 100 impermissible phone calls made while he was head coach at Indiana.

Madeleine Gestas is the target of a tax investigation that Anderson's lawyer says is aimed at pressuring the trainer to testify at Bonds' trial on charges on lying to a grand jury. Anderson served more than a year in prison for refusing to testify against Bonds before a federal grand jury.

Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack has moved its opening day back a week to April 13.

The California State Athletic Commission suspended the boxing license of former welterweight titleholder Antonio Margarito while it investigates a plaster-like substance found under the boxer's hand wraps before his loss Saturday to Shane Mosley.

The commission also suspended the license of Margarito's trainer, Javier Capetillo, and asked both to appear at a Feb. 10 hearing.

The substance was bagged as evidence before the bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and was being analyzed by the California Department of Justice, the commission said.

Bill Caplan, a spokesman for Margarito's promoter, said the boxer "expects to prove himself innocent."
