GA’s Kevitch commits to Bucknell
OK, so Germantown Academy was not exactly a football power this past season.
OK, so Germantown Academy was not exactly a football power this past season.
You gotta love this, though: Quarterback Austin Kevitch is bound for Bucknell.
The 6-1, 185-pound senior, who also played defensive back, made his oral commitment yesterday after also receiving interest from schools such as Penn, Princeton, Dartmouth and Georgetown, among others.
"I went up to Bucknell last summer and the quarterback coach said he'd be checking me out, and to send him some tapes of early-season games," Kevitch said. "I sent four and they stayed in touch.
"When I was making my decision, I was kidding around with him, saying, 'You do want me for quarterback, right?' He said yes and that he wasn't even going to tell the defensive coaches about me.
"I know I don't come from a top-level program. But I think they were looking at my jukes on runs and how I made my reads on passing downs, and then made the throws. I like that they like athletic quarterbacks."
Kevitch, who lives in Blue Bell, plans to major in business management. He said he received good input about Bucknell from classmate Cameron Ayers, who's headed there for hoops.
"One of the Bucknell games I saw was against Holy Cross," Kevitch said. "Holy Cross was expected to beat them. But Bucknell upset them. That left a good impression." *
