Eagles receive NFL approval for renovations at Linc

The Eagles received NFL backing on Tuesday to proceed with plans to renovate Lincoln Financial Field, team president Don Smolenski said.

The Eagles received NFL backing on Tuesday to proceed with plans to renovate Lincoln Financial Field, team president Don Smolenski said.

"We are excited to have received league support today for our stadium revitalization project at Lincoln Financial Field," Smolenski said in a statement. "We will share the details of this project with our fans in the coming weeks."

The project was approved on Monday during the spring owners' meetings in Boston.

While a formal announcement is forthcoming, the Eagles have spoken freely about some of the modernizations they had planned for their stadium, including bringing the jumbo video screens up to high definition standards.

The Eagles have discussed the possibility of adding seats and filling in the empty spaces in the northeast and southeast corners of the stadium. The Linc, which opened nearly 10 years ago, has a seating capacity of approximately 69,000.

Renovations to club and suite level boxes and various entrances have already begun and are expected to be part of the long-rang plans.

In February, the Eagles increased ticket prices by an average of $8. The upgrades come at time when television viewership of NFL games, buoyed by high definition screens, is at an all-time high.
