Jokinen lifts Jets over Rangers

Olli Jokinen broke a tie with 7 minutes, 18 seconds left in the third period and then netted an insurance goal moments later to lift the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-2 victory over the host New York Rangers and rookie goalie Cam Talbot on Monday night.

Jokinen, a former Rangers player, also assisted on Devin Setoguchi's tying goal in the second period.

Mats Zuccarello and Ryan Callahan had goals for New York. Talbot made 25 saves.

Alex Galchenyuk scored midway through the third period to help the host Montreal Canadiens beat the New Jersey Devils, 3-2.

Varlamov in court

Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov can remain free on bond while facing a domestic violence charge involving his girlfriend, a Denver judge said.

Varlamov appeared in court for a brief hearing as the judge formally advised him that he faces a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault.

He is scheduled to enter a plea at his next hearing on Jan. 22.

U.S. Hall of Fame

Doug Weight, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, three-time Olympian and four-time NHL all-star, was inducted into the U.S. Hall of Fame along with former teammate Bill Guerin. Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos, former college coach Ron Mason and Cindy Curley, one of the pioneers in women's hockey, also were inducted.
