Sports in Brief: Heisman winner Winston accused of taking crab legs

The 20-year-old Winston ordered the food at the deli in a Tallahassee-area Publix on Tuesday night, Leon County Sheriff's Major Michael Wood said Wednesday. After receiving the order, he left the store without paying.

Wood said Publix employees called deputies, who went to Winston's apartment. He issued a statement through his lawyer saying he had intended to pay, "but made a terrible mistake for which I'm taking full responsibility."

As a result of the citation, Winston, a pitcher, was suspended from the FSU baseball team.

The college football playoff selection committee will release a weekly top 25, starting Oct. 28, and panel members will be required to recuse themselves when a school they work for comes up for discussion. The 13-member panel, which includes five current athletic directors, will meet in person, and the rankings will be released Tuesday nights on ESPN.

SOCCER The national teams of Ireland and Costa Rica will meet June 6 at 8 p.m. at PPL Park in Chester.

Costa Rica is in Group D of the World Cup in Brazil this summer and will open against Uruguay in Fortaleza on June 14 before facing Italy in Recife on June 20. Four days later, the Ticos will close out the first round against England in Belo Horizonte.

Ireland finished fourth in Group C in European qualifying and will not compete in the World Cup. The Irish are   led by L.A. Galaxy striker Robbie Keane. Ireland will face Portugal four days later at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

GOLF A San Francisco Bay Area golf coach who was set to receive an award from the PGA before he was arrested and accused of molesting three boys tried to hire a hit man to have them killed, prosecutors said. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged 32-year-old Andrew Michael Nisbet with three felony counts for solicitation of murder, authorities said. He was facing more than six-dozen molestation charges. Nisbet's lawyer did not immediately return a call for comment.
