David Pastrnak scored on a nice centering pass from Carl Soderberg with 37 seconds remaining in overtime, giving the Boston Bruins a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.

The win put the Bruins three points ahead of Ottawa and four up on Florida in their race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa has a game in hand on both of the teams. The Bruins' win also eliminated the Flyers from the playoff hunt.

Boston goalie Tuukka Rask, who had left Saturday's win over the New York Rangers because of dehydration early in the second period, had 30 saves.

Panthers 4, Senators 2 - Jaromir Jagr scored two goals and Dan Ellis made 25 saves as visiting Florida defeated Ottawa.

The win pulled the Panthers within a point of Ottawa for ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

Jussi Jokinen and Dave Bolland also scored for Florida.

Ottawa's Craig Anderson made 33 saves.

Flames 5, Predators 2 - Lance Bouma scored two goals to lead Calgary to a win over host Nashville.

Michael Ferland, Kris Russell, and Jiri Hudler also scored for the Flames, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Roman Josi and Seth Jones had the goals for Nashville. Playing their third game in four days, the playoff-bound Predators' four-game winning streak came to an end.

Islanders 5, Red Wings 4 - Frans Nielsen's goal 16 seconds into the second period broke a 3-3 tie and the New York Islanders held on to beat Detroit for their first home win this month.

The Islanders came in winless in seven previous home games, last winning at Nassau Coliseum over Calgary on Feb. 27, and with only one victory in their last eight contests overall.

New York quickly fell behind 2-0 before the teams went on to score six goals combined in the first 10 minutes of the opening period.

Capitals 5, Rangers 2 - Alex Ovechkin scored twice and Jason Chimera added two goals in the third period to rally Washington to a victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday.

Ovechkin had a goal in each of the first two periods, and Chimera broke a 2-2 tie 4 minutes, 41 seconds into the third. He made it 4-2 with 12:20 remaining, and Marcus Johansson added an empty-netter with 2:23 left.

Penguins 3, Sharks 2 - David Perron and Sidney Crosby scored in the shootout, and Pittsburgh topped San Jose in its second home game of the weekend.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped Melker Karlsson, and when Logan Couture's shot struck the crossbar after Crosby's goal, the game was over and Pittsburgh pulled back into a tie for second place in the Metropolitan Division.
