Joe Goosby stars in Soul win

Becomes the first player in franchise history to be named the top offensive and defensive player in the game.

AN HISTORIC night from Joe Goosby helped the Soul register its most impressive win of the season on Saturday.

Goosby, playing both sides of the ball, ran for three 1-yard touchdowns and scored another on an interception return as the Soul thumped host Tampa Bay, 71-27.

Goosby also caused a pair of Storm fumbles and scored two more points on a blocked PAT. Goosby personally accounted for 26 points, one fewer than the Storm.

The AFL hands out individual awards for each game, and Goosby became the first player in Soul history to be named top offensive and defensive player in the same contest.

An ankle injury to starting fullback Tommy Taggart opened the way for Goosby to register the first five carries of his AFL career. Goosby, who generally is a linebacker, played collegiately at Tulane and is in his fourth season with the Soul.

The Soul (8-1) plays Las Vegas on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall.
