Fresh off a late-May White House visit, men's basketball coach Jay Wright and his 2016 NCAA national championship team are to be honored again next week, this time with the John Wanamaker Athletic Award.
Wright is set to be presented with the award at noon Wednesday during a ceremony at the Crystal Tea Room in the Wanamaker Building.
Mayor Jim Kenney and Phillies chairman David Montgomery will be on hand for the awards presentation. Philadelphia City Rowing and Rahim Thompson, who founded a free summer basketball league called the Chosen League, also will receive awards.
Villanova beat North Carolina in April to win its first national championship in 30 years.
