Temple picks up option to play at Linc in 2018

Temple has exercised its option to play at Lincoln Financial Field in 2018, a source familiar with the dealings said Thursday. The current contract to play at the Linc expires in 2017, but Temple had signed an amended agreement with the Eagles that allowed it two option years, 2018 and 2019.

The option year for 2018 has been exercised. Temple is hoping to build an on-campus stadium, but has not reached an agreement to move forward.

Bowl update

Temple will travel to Navy for the American Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, and there remains the possibility that the Owls could return to Annapolis to play in the Military Bowl on Dec. 27 against a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Temple's first choice is obviously the Cotton Bowl, but for that the Owls need Western Michigan to lose Friday to Ohio in the Mid-American Conference championship game while the Owls beat Navy.

If those scenarios don't happen, the Military Bowl is an option, even though both sides have expressed reservations about having Temple play there twice in the same month.

Had Temple not been playing at Annapolis this weekend, it would have been the No. 1 choice of both the bowl and Temple, according to those familiar with the situation.

Still, Temple's tickets sales have gone well for the AAC final, according to a source, and it's the only bowl-eligible AAC school that is within driving distance of Annapolis.

The other options from the AAC for the game include South Florida, Memphis, and Houston.

"Temple remains a very realistic option," said Steve Beck, executive director of the Military Bowl.
