Patrick Sheltra finished fourth in the American 200 at Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina and won the ARCA Racing Series. Tom Hessert of Cherry Hill finished 19th in the race, third in the final standings.

Matt Hagan passed John Force for the Funny Car points lead during the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pa., when he posted a 4.046-second pass at 308.99 m.p.h.

GOLF: John Parry's lead in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship was halved to 2 strokes after the Englishman shot a 1-under-par 71 in the third round in Carnoustie, Scotland. Parry is at 13-under 203.

Martin Kaymer (68) and Alvaro Quiros of Spain (68) are tied for second.

Mark O'Meara, seeking his first win on the Champions Tour, shot a 1-under 69 for a 2-stroke lead in the Senior Players Championship. O'Meara was at 5 under at TPC at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Md.

Gene Fieger shot a 3-under 69 for a share of the lead in the Senior PGA Championship on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, Calif.

Heath Slocum shot a 4-under 66 to take a one-shot lead over Joe Durant and tour rookie Troy Merritt going into the final round of the new McGladrey Classic on the Sea Island Course in St. Simons Island, Ga.

SOCCER: American forward Charlie Davies said he was not the driver of a car stopped for going 125 m.p.h. last weekend but told French police he was driving to protect a teammate.

Davies, who nearly died in a car crash last year, said Jacques Faty, his teammate at French club Sochaux, asked him to switch places and to tell police he was driving because Faty thought his license was still suspended from a previous speeding infraction.

Faty said he planned to go to the police this week and clear up the incident.

TENNIS: Defending champion Novak Djokovic reached the final of the China Open in Beijing by beating American John Isner, 7-6 (1), 6-4.

Djokovic will meet David Ferrer of Spain, who defeated Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

In the women's bracket, new No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki beat Shahar Peer, 7-5, 6-2, to reach the final. She will play Vera Zvonareva, who topped past Li Na, 6-3, 6-3.

PRO BASKETBALL: New Jersey Nets power forward Troy Murphy may miss the season opener because of a "bad disk," coach Avery Johnson said.
