Philly's Fulton advances in USA boxing tournament

Stephen Fulton Jr. of Philadelphia highlighted the action Wednesday at the 2012 USA Boxing National Championships at Fort Carson, Colo., when he defeated Gilbert Salas of Lakewood, Colo., as the referee stopped the 108-pound preliminary bout and awarded the victory to Fulton.

Jesse Hart of Philadelphia decisioned Wesley Tucker of Toledo, Ohio, 22-6, at 165 pounds. At 125, Tiara Brown of Lehigh Acres, Fla., won by default over Kymmberli Stowe of Philadelphia. It was unclear why Stowe did not compete.

On Tuesday, Hart decisioned D'Mitrius Ballard of Temple Hills, Md., 15-10, at 165 pounds.

But two other Philadelphia fighters lost on Tuesday. At 132, Gary Antonio Russell of Capitol Heights, Md., beat Joshua Jones, 17-9, and Jamontay Clark of Cincinnati, Ohio, decisioned Hasan Young, 11-9, at 141. Streaming video and results of the tournament are available at www.usaboxing.org.
