Promoter J. Russell Peltz is trying to line up an opponent for North Philadelphia heavyweight Bryant Jennings, but it apparently will not be the rising star of Golden Boy Promotions.
Promoter J. Russell Peltz is trying to line up an opponent for North Philadelphia heavyweight Bryant Jennings, but it apparently will not be the rising star of Golden Boy Promotions.
Jennings is set to fight the main event Dec. 8 in Philadelphia on a card that will be televised by NBC Sports Network.
Peltz said he offered Golden Boy a match between Jennings (15-0, 7 knockouts) and Deontay Wilder, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist who has won all 25 of his pro fights by knockout.
Jay Deas, Wilder's trainer, said he didn't think the amount was a serious offer. He said Jennings is an opponent he and Wilder both want, but believe the fight should be treated as a "big fight." Wilder is booked to fight Dec. 15 on Showtime.
Mundy set for rematch. North Philadelphia's Latif Mundy will meet ranked middleweight Patrick Majewski of Poland on Saturday night at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.
Mundy (10-4, 4 KOs) has dropped four of his last six fights, three by knockout. Majewski (19-1, 13 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over Mundy in June 2009. He is ranked 12th by the World Boxing Council.
Hart still a go. Jesse Hart's November fight in Las Vegas remains on, despite the news that Orlando Salido has pulled out of the main event with Mikey Garcia because of a broken finger. The son of Philadelphia middleweight Cyclone Hart does not have an opponent yet for the Nov. 10 fight at the Wynn Las Vegas casino.
