DANNY GARCIA, the light welterweight world champion from Juniata Park, was named yesterday "Philly Fighter of the Year" for the third straight year by PhillyBoxingHistory.com as part of the seventh annual Briscoe Awards.

Garcia, 26, is being honored for 2013, during which he twice defended his titles. He followed up a win against Zab Judah by upsetting Lucas Matthysse in September in Las Vegas. The win over Matthysse also earned him the Briscoe medal for performance of the year.

Other winners are Julian Williams (West Philadelphia), prospect of the year; Tevin Farmer, breakout fighter of the year; Stephen Fulton Jr., amateur of the year; and Anthony Caputo Smith (Kennett Square) and Dhafir Smith (Upper Darby), area fight of the year.

The annual Briscoe banquet is set for Oct. 19 in South Philly at Flat Iron Bar & Grill (26 E. Oregon Ave.) from 1 to 4 p.m. It's free and open to the public.
