Another fight for Hopkins?

Bernard Hopkins' next fight - and possibly his last - could be on the horizon. Whether the fight is made - and whether it is the swan song for the 50-year-old fighter - is up in the air.

Bernard Hopkins' next fight - and possibly his last - could be on the horizon.

Whether the fight is made - and whether it is the swan song for the 50-year-old fighter - is up in the air.

Hopkins, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, is angling for a fight against 168-pound IBF super-middleweight champion James DeGale.

"I'm interested in beating up a guy - the same guy that beat up Dirrell," Hopkins said. Last month, DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) scored a unanimous, 12-round decision over Andre Dirrell for the vacant belt in Boston. With the win, DeGale became the first British gold medalist to capture a recognized world championship in any weight class.

The fight would almost certainly take place in Britain.

Attempts to reach Hopkins on Wednesday were unsuccessful.

A surefire Hall of Famer, Hopkins (55-7-2) hasn't fought since WBO light-heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev easily lifted Hopkins' IBF and WBC belts last November in Atlantic City in a unanimous 12-round decision.

In the search for Hopkins' next opponent, a couple of lesser - and basically inactive - fighters have made their way into the conversation. Mikkel Kessler and Lucian Bute appeared spent in their most recent bouts.

Kessler, 36, last fought in 2013. And in his last appearance, the 35-year-old Bute dropped a 12-round decision to Jean Pascal almost 17 months ago.
