College Basketball: Delle Donne stars as Hens top Navy

Freshman Elena Delle Donne had 26 points in her home debut for Delaware as the Blue Hens topped Navy, 67-50, last night in a nonconference game at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del.

A crowd of 3,040, the second largest in Delaware women's basketball single-game history, watched the hometown favorite face Navy (7-4).

Delle Donne, a former star of Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, had not played basketball in her home state since her senior season in 2007-08, when she was named the national high school female player of the year.

Jocelyn Bailey had 11 rebounds for Delaware (5-3), which will host La Salle tomorrow afternoon.

Villanova 53, Binghamton 43 - The Wildcats (6-2) got 18 points from Maria Getty in a nonconference win over the Bearcats (2-6) at the Pavilion.

Elsewhere: Alyssa Brady scored 14 points for Cabrini in a 49-39 loss to host Elizabethtown College. . . . Renata Neal scored 13 points for host West Chester in an 83-80 loss in overtime to Clarion.

Men

Tennessee 75, Middle Tennessee 54 -

J.P. Prince scored a season-high 17 points, and the No. 9 Vols (7-1) showed off their depth in beating the Blue Raiders (3-6) in Nashville in the first game of the Sun Belt Classic doubleheader.

Vanderbilt played Western Kentucky in the second game.

Elsewhere: Matt Johnson had 22 points for Gwynedd-Mercy in an 89-84 loss to Worcester Polytechnic Institute at the Regis College Park Lodge Tournament in Weston, Mass. . . . Tyson Hartnett scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds for host Rowan in an 82-60 win over Berkeley College in the first round of the Profs' Heritage Dairy Stores Classic. Rowan will play Delaware Valley College in today's championship.
