Connecticut update: When the Huskies ran visiting Texas Southern off the field last week with a 62-3 rout, Edsall became the school's all-time winningest football coach. His team opened the season with a 30-10 loss at Michigan. The Huskies, who are 15-1 against Mid-American Conference squads since 2002, edged host Temple, 12-9, in overtime in 2008. In '07, UConn came away with a 22-17 victory at home after a disputed pass play at the end, which appeared to be an Owls' touchdown, was ruled no-good by the game officials. UConn running back Jordan Todman bears watching.
Temple update: The Owls survived another nail-biter last week, taking a 13-10 victory in overtime over visiting Central Michigan in the MAC season opener for both teams. Temple opened the season at home with a 31-24 victory over Villanova. While the Temple defense has played fairly well, the Owls' offense has yet to get its running game in gear. They had 226 yards on 73 carries in their first two games but more is expected of running backs Bernard Pierce and Matt Brown. They both averaged nearly 6 yards a rush last season. - Kevin Tatum
