Ashton Gibbs scored 24 points, Brad Wanamaker added 17 and No. 5 Pittsburgh opened an 18-point lead midway through the first half while cruising to its second victory in 3 nights, a 97-54 decision over rebuilding Illinois-Chicago last night.

The Panthers (2-0) didn't need long to take control in the 2K Sports Classic second-round game against the Flames (0-1), a Horizon League member coming off an 8-22 season.
Wanamaker had a driving layup, two pull-up jumpers and a three-pointer in the opening 7 minutes as Pitt opened leads of 9-2, 14-4 and 22-6 against Illinois-Chicago, which was playing its first game under new coach Howard Moore, a former Wisconsin assistant.
Illinois-Chicago, 1-16 on the road the last two seasons, was led by K.C. Robbins' 12 points.

* At Champaign, Ill., Senior guard Demetri McCamey scored 13 points to lead No. 13 Illinois to an 84-45 victory over Toledo in the second round of the 2K Sports Classic.
McCamey was 3-for-4 from beyond the three-point arc and had 11 points in the first half as the Illini (2-0) opened a 47-18 lead. Delino Dear scored 11 points for the Rockets (0-1).

* Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne said head coach Doc Sadler's job security is not an issue this season, regardless of the team's record. Osborne said Sadler deserves an opportunity to recruit to the new practice facility that opens next fall. The Cornhuskers move into a new arena in 2013. Sadler is 70-58 in 4 years at Nebraska, but just 23-41 in the Big 12.
* Rhode Island freshman Levan Shengalia will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and torn meniscus in his right knee. He suffered the injury while playing with a partially torn ACL against Pittsburgh on Monday night.
