College Basketball: Buckeyes cruise; Hoyas rebound

Jared Sullinger scored 17 points and No. 2 Ohio State came out of the blocks fast to beat turnover-prone Western Carolina, 85-60, in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday.

Dallas Lauderdale, William Buford, and Deshaun Thomas all added 13 points and Jon Diebler 10 for the Buckeyes (8-0).

Mike Williams led the Catamounts (4-8) with 22 points, while Trey Sumler had 12 and Brandon Boggs 11.

Georgetown 89, Appalachian State 60 - Jason Clark scored 15 points, Austin Freeman added 14, and the No. 9 Hoyas (9-1) rebounded in Washington from their first loss of the season, against Temple.

Donald Sims and Jeremi Booth both scored 14 points for the Mountaineers (3-4).

Freshman Moses Avegba, ruled ineligible for Georgetown's first nine games for receiving an airline ticket from his native Nigeria to the United States from a non-family member, made his debut and scored four points in two mop-up minutes.

Illinois 86, Northern Colorado 76 - Mike Tisdale and D.J. Richardson scored 14 points each and Mike Davis added 12 to lead the No. 16 Illini (10-1) over the Bears (4-4) in Champaign, Ill.

Virginia 79, Penn State 69 - Malcolm Delaney scored 18 points and Jeff Allen did a lot of everything for the Hokies (5-4) in their win over the Nittany Lions (7-3) in Blacksburg, Va.

Talor Battle scored 26 to lead Penn State.

Memphis junior leaving. Memphis junior forward Angel Garcia will leave the 13th-ranked Tigers at the end of the fall semester and sign a professional contract in Spain.

The 6-foot-11 Garcia will complete his final exams first.
