Kansas remains unbeaten as Morris twins lead OT win over Michigan

After barely escaping with an overtime win over Michigan, Kansas coach Bill Self is a little hesitant to compare this year's Jayhawks with his national championship team from three seasons ago.

After barely escaping with an overtime win over Michigan, Kansas coach Bill Self is a little hesitant to compare this year's Jayhawks with his national championship team from three seasons ago.

"That wasn't a good team, that was a great team," Self said. "I think that this team that we have is a good team with a chance to become really good . . . I've also got to be careful of comparing to that team. It's not fair to these guys."

For now the Jayhawks will have to settle for the school's best start since that 2007-08 season (20-0). Yesterday, Marcus Morris scored 22 points as third-ranked Kansas outlasted Michigan 67-60 to improve to 15-0.

Marcus and his twin brother Markieff, graduates of Prep Charter, both had double-doubles. Markieff had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Marcus had 10 rebounds to go along with his crucial scoring.

Freshman Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 19 points for the Wolverines (11-5) but was only 5-of-19 from the field with his father, the former NBA star with the same name, looking on.

In other games:

* At Duke, Kyle Singler had 25 points and a season-high 10 rebounds, and No. 1 Duke beat Maryland 71-64 to extend its winning streak to 25 games. Nolan Smith added 18 points for the Blue Devils (15-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast), who overcame 17 turnovers to extend their best start since 2005-06. Jordan Williams had 23 points and 13 rebounds for his ninth straight double-double, and Cliff Tucker added 14 points for the Terrapins (10-5, 0-2). The reigning national champions extended their winning streak at Cameron Indoor Stadium to 29, and have defeated 51 consecutive unranked opponents on their home floor.

* At Ohio State, David Lighty scored 19 points and No. 2 Ohio State survived a scare when Austin Hollins' three-pointer came up short in the final seconds, allowing the Buckeyes to remain unbeaten with a 67-64 victory over Minnesota. Ohio State (16-0, 3-0 Big Ten) led by 18 points before the Golden Gophers (12-4, 1-3) rallied to pull within 67-64 with 44.6 seconds left. Coach Tubby Smith elected to foul Ohio State's Dallas Lauderdale, a 33 percent free throw shooter, and he missed both with 28.5 seconds left. But the Gophers missed two shots inside before taking the ball out underneath the basket with 15 seconds remaining. With time running out, Nolen fed Hollins who got off a shot with 1 second left that was deflected by Ohio State's William Buford.

* At Purdue, Ryne Smith scored 18 points to help No. 11 Purdue beat Iowa 75-52, the Boilermakers' 10th straight win. JaJuan Johnson had 16 points and four blocks and E'Twaun Moore and Kelsey Barlow each added 11 points for the Boilermakers (15-1, 4-0 Big Ten). Matt Gatens had 13 points to lead the Hawkeyes (7-8, 0-3).

* At South Florida, Preston Knowles scored nine of his 12 points in the final 3:35 and Louisville (13-2, 2-0 Big East) made 10 of 12 free throws down the stretch to hold off South Florida (6-11, 0-4), 86-77.

* At Arizona, Jamelle Horne scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Arizona (14-3, 3-1 Pacific 10) completed a home sweep of the Bay Area schools with a 67-57 victory over Stanford (9-5, 2-1) in a game pushed back a day because of Saturday's mass shooting in suburban Tucson where six people were killed and U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was critically wounded.

In a woman's game:

* At Tennessee, Shekinna Stricklen and Meighan Simmons had 18 points apiece and No. 5 Tennessee cruised to an 86-46 Southeastern Conference win over Mississippi. The Lady Volunteers (15-2, 3-0 SEC) beat the Rebels (8-6, 1-1) for the 21st consecutive time and logged their fourth blowout in five games, outscoring opponents by an average 37.6 points in that stretch.
