College Basketball: Hoyas survive 43-point onslaught

Georgetown overcame a 43-point performance by Providence's Marshon Brooks to win its sixth straight game, 83-81, in Washington. Brooks' career high was the most points scored by a Big East player this season and the fifth highest total ever in a Big East game.

Austin Freeman scored 23 points, Jason Clark had 18, Wright added 16, and Julian Vaughn put in 14 for the No. 13 Hoyas (18-5, 7-4 Big East).

Brooks added 10 rebounds for Providence (14-10, 3-8).

Pittsburgh 71, Cincinnati 59 - Ashton Gibbs tied a career-high with 25 points and the No. 4 Panthers (21-2) took advantage of the visiting Bobcats (18-5, 5-5), who were without suspended forward Yancy Gates. Gilbert Brown added 11 points for the Panthers, who lead the Big East.

Syracuse 72, South Florida 49 - Rick Jackson scored 21 points with 12 rebounds and Kris Joseph added 14 points to lead the No. 17 Orange (20-4, 7-4 Big East).

Syracuse has now won at least 20 games in 33 of 35 seasons under Jim Boeheim, whose 849 victories rank second among active Division I coaches. Cold-shooting USF fell to 8-16, 2-9.

Louisville 61, DePaul 57 - Kyle Kuric scored 19 points, including the game-clinching three-pointer with two minutes left, as the No. 15 Cardinals (18-5, 7-3 Big East), held off visiting DePaul (6-16, 0-10).

Kansas 86, Nebraska 66 - Brady Morningstar scored a season-high 19 points as the second-ranked Jayhawks (22-1, 7-1 Big 12) won at Nebraska (15-7, 3-5).

Duke 76, N.C. State 52 - Nolan Smith scored 18 of his 20 points during the decisive first half, Mason Plumlee had 16 points and 12 rebounds and the No. 5 Blue Devils (21-2, 8-1) rolled past the visiting Wolfpack (12-11, 2-7).

Connecticut 61, Seton Hall 59 - Kemba Walker scored 19 points and the No. 6 Huskies (18-4, 6-4) beat the Pirates (10-14, 4-8) in Newark.

BYU 78, UNLV 64 - Jimmer Fredette scored 16 of his game-high 29 points from the free-throw line as the No. 7 Cougars (22-2, 8-1) beat visiting UNLV (17-6, 5-4).

Missouri 89, Colorado 73 - Kim English came off the bench to score 21 points, and the No. 24 Tigers (18-5, 4-4 Big East) rattled visiting Colorado (15-9, 4-5) into a season-worst 23 turnovers.

Baylor 76, Texas A&M 74 - Anthony Jones scored on a layup with 3.1 seconds left in overtime, and A.J. Walton stole the ball from Khris Middleton to preserve the upset for the visiting Bears (15-7, 5-4 Big 12). B.J. Holmes finished with 19 points to lead No. 16 Texas A&M (17-5, 4-4).

Oregon 81, Washington 76 - Joevan Catron had 20 points and nine rebounds as the Ducks (12-11, 5-6 Pac-10), handed the No. 20 Huskies (15-7, 7-4) their third consecutive loss.

St. Bonaventure 64, Duquesne 62 - Michael Davenport hit a three-pointer with 3 seconds left and the host Bonnies (12-10, 4-5 Atlantic 10) ended the Dukes' (16-6, 8-1) winning steak at 11, in Olean, N.Y.
