Xavier women clinch top seed in Atlantic 10 Tournament, snap Temple's win streak

Temple's 15-game winning streak ended when Amber Harris scored 26 points to lead No. 6 Xavier to a 73-66 win yesterday, clinching the top seed in this weekend's Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Ta'Shia Phillips added 18 points and 15 rebounds for her 18th double-double of the season for the visiting Musketeers (25-2, 14-0 A-10). Xavier became the first school in A-10 history to finish unbeaten in conference play in consecutive years.

Shey Peddy scored 24 points and Qwedia Wallace 22 for Temple (22-7, 13-1), which will have the second seed in the tournament in Lowell, Mass.

In other games:

* At George Washington, Katie Kuester had 14 points and Erin Shields 12, on four three-pointers, to lead Saint Joseph's (18-10, 8-6 A-10) to a 64-49 win over the Colonials (8-20, 3-11). Sara Mostafa led the hosts with 16 points.

* At Towson, Kamile Nacickaite and Hollie Mershon each scored 16 points to lead Drexel (17-11, 9-8 Colonial) to a 58-47 victory over the Tigers (9-19, 3-14). Taylor Wootton added 10 points for the Dragons, while Mershon also had nine rebounds. Wootton hit a three-point shot with 2:35 to play to seal the win.
