Marple Newtown senior recipient of Reid award

David Reid would have been a starting offensive lineman for Andy Talley's Villanova football team in 2004. Reid drowned in the summer before that season. His family - mom Barbara, dad Mark, brothers Sean and Mark, along with relatives and friends - wanted to find a way to honor David.

In August 2008, they formed the David Michael Reid Foundation, which awards an annual college scholarship (full tuition, books, room and board) to a high school senior in the greater Philadelphia area.

The second DMR Foundation scholarship will be awarded to Marple Newtown High senior Dorela Priftanji. Her family came to the United States from Albania when she was 6 years old. She was chosen from a pool of more than 100 applicants nominated by their high schools, based on her academics, involvement in extracurricular activities and dedication to community programs. She will be going to The University of the Sciences in the fall. A ceremony will be held at Marple Newtown today (1 p.m.) to present the scholarship.

The DMR Foundation, Inc. is a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation. All donations to the foundation (dmrfoundation.org) are fully tax-deductible.
