DES MOINES, Iowa - Temple junior Travis Mahoney ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:47.31, the fourth-fastest time in his heat, to advance to finals of the NCAA Championships.

Mahoney will be one of 14 runners competing in tomorrow's final, set for 8:30 p.m.

"This is a great accomplishment for the program," said head coach Eric Mobley, "and a testament to how strong Travis has been running all year long. I'm very happy for him. It's a testament to the hard work of [distance coach] Matt Jelley as well."

Temple senior Bob Keogh, a product of Archbishop Wood High, will compete in the hammer throw this afternoon.

"Now we've got Bob tomorrow . . . " said Mobley. "Today was great for us but it's not over, with Bob's event, and at least one final coming up."
