Michigan comes back to beat Notre Dame

Denard Robinson threw a 16-yard pass to Roy Roundtree with two seconds left, lifting Michigan to a 35-31, heart-pounding win over Notre Dame in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday night.

The Wolverines took their first lead on Robinson's 21-yard pass to Vincent Smith with 1 minute, 12 seconds left, then lost it. Briefly.

Tommy Rees threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Theo Riddick with 30 seconds left, but the Fighting Irish left Jeremy Gallon wide open on a pass that let Michigan go from its 20 to the Notre Dame 16.

The Wolverines (2-0) have won three straight against the rival Irish (1-1) on late-game plays by quarterbacks.  

North Carolina 24, Rutgers 22 - Giovani Bernard rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns to help the Tar Heels Carolina beat the Scarlet Knights in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Bernard scored on runs of 60 and 6 yards for the Tar Heels (2-0), who overcame five turnovers to begin the season with consecutive wins for the third time in the last four seasons.

The Scarlet Knights (1-1) lost the ball on downs at their own 42 with 2:32 remaining, and the Tar Heels ran out the clock from there.

Iowa State 44, Iowa 41 - James White's 4-yard TD run in triple overtime pushed the Cyclones (2-0) past rival Iowa (1-1), snapping a three-game losing streak to the rival Hawkeyes in thrilling fashion.

California 36, Colorado 33 - Keenan Allen hauled in a 5-yard TD pass from Zach Maynard in overtime, lifting the Bears (2-0) to a thrilling win over the Buffaloes (0-2) despite a record-setting offensive day by host Colorado.

Rice 24, Purdue 22 - Justin Allen blocked Carson Wiggs' 31-yard field-goal attempt as time expired and the Owls (1-1) snapped their 10-year losing streak against Bowl Championship Series teams with a victory over the Boilermakers in Houston.

Tennessee 45, Cincinnati 23 - Tyler Bray threw for a career-high 405 yards, passed for four touchdowns, and ran for a fifth score as the Vols (2-0) cruised to a win over the Bearcats (1-1) in Knoxville, Tenn.

Pittsburgh 35, Maine 29 - Ray Graham ran for 121 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Panthers (2-0) past the Black Bears (1-1) in Pittsburgh.
