College Basketball: Rosemont tops Profs; Owls' Peddy honored

Gwynedd-Mercy 89, Penn State-Berks 74 - Brendan Stanton (Lansdale Catholic) scored 16 as the Griffins (5-2) topped the Lions in Gwynedd Valley.

Women

Rowan 68, Immaculata 65 - Lauren Creel (Pennsauken) sealed the Profs' (4-4) win with a layup. Kelly Brown (Cardinal O'Hara) led visiting Immaculata (5-3) with 13.

Rutgers-Camden 62, Notre Dame 48 - Brittany Turner scored 17 points to lead the Raptors (5-1) past the Gators (0-5) in a nonleague game in Baltimore.

Rosemont 82, Penn State Berks 56 - Liz Coyne (Downingtown West) scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Ashley Montecchio (Sun Valley) added 24 points, as the Ravens (4-3, 3-0 CSAC) downed the visitors.

Saint Joseph's sophomore C.J. Aiken leads the nation in blocked shots, according to the NCAA Statistics released Monday. The 6-foot-9 forward is averaging 5.0 per game, with a total of 40 blocks in the Hawks' eight games thus far. Aiken also is averaging 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds,

Philadelphia University's Kristen Blye, a Downingtown East graduate, was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball player of the week. . . . Lafayette's Emily Homan (Delco Christian) was named the Patriot League women's basketball rookie of the week. . . . Chris Carideo, the Widener men's basketball coach, has been voted into the Philadelphia Small College Basketball Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place in March.
