College Basketball: Notre Dame tops Pitt in Big East opener

Centenary 86, TCNJ 77 - The Lions (5-4) fell to the Cyclones (5-5) in Hacketstown, N.J. Sophomore Skyelar Ettin led TCNJ's offense with 22 points.

Wilson suspended. The University of Rhode Island indefinitely suspended top scorer Jamal Wilson, a senior guard, for breaking unspecified team rules. Coach Jim Baron plans to reevaluate Wilson's status on the team over the next week. Wilson, a Neumann-Goretti graduate from Norristown, averaged 17.5 points per game through the first 10 games of the season.

Big East suit continues. A Rhode Island judge denied a request by West Virginia University to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Big East Conference over the university's bid to make a quick exit for the Big 12.

The Big East's lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and an order that West Virginia stay in the conference for 27 months.

Kidd-Gilchrist returns. Kentucky forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has returned to the team after going home to Somerdale, Camden County, during the holiday break to visit his hospitalized mother.

Pitino done in 2017. Rick Pitino said he won't coach past the 2016-17 season when his current contract ends at Louisville.
