Diving champ dies at 43

OLYMPIC DIVING champion Mark Lenzi has died at 43 in Greenville, N.C. Lenzi's alma mater, Indiana University, made the announcement Monday. Lenzi's hometown newspaper, the Free Lance-Star in Fredricksburg, Va., said Lenzi had been hospitalized for 2 weeks after suffering fainting spells. His mother, Ellie, told the newspaper her son's blood pressure was too low.

Lenzi's alma mater, Indiana University, made the announcement Monday. Lenzi's hometown newspaper, the Free Lance-Star in Fredricksburg, Va., said Lenzi had been hospitalized for 2 weeks after suffering fainting spells. His mother, Ellie, told the newspaper her son's blood pressure was too low.

Lenzi won the 3-meter springboard at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Four years later, he came out of a brief retirement and won the bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Lenzi won two NCAA diving championships, 18 international competitions and was twice named America's diver of the year. He spent 2009-11 as the diving coach at East Carolina.

Kansas forward Thomas Robinson, a unanimous first-team All-America, is giving up his final year of eligibility and entering the NBA draft. Robinson averaged 17.9 points and 11.8 rebounds this season as the Jayhawks advanced to the NCAA championship game.

* Oregon State guard Jared Cunningham is skipping his senior season and entering the draft.

* Baylor forward Perry Jones III is skipping his final two seasons to enter the draft. In other news, Baylor announced it has been involved in a 3-year investigation with the NCAA into what are believed to be hundreds of impermissible phone calls and text messages sent by coaches to young prospects. The school did not describe any details of the investigation, including which sports were involved.

Former FIFA president Joao Havelange, 95, was back in the intensive-care unit of a Brazil hospital with heart and breathing problems, 3 weeks after he was hospitalized for an infection.

* Former champion Tommy Haas withdrew with a right knee injury during qualifying in the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston.
