St. Joe's Gallagher shuts out Temple

Gallagher, a senior from St. Basil's Academy, has won 65 career games.

The Owls (27-22) then were eliminated by a 4-1 loss to Charlotte. The 49ers had lost, 9-2, to George Washington in the morning games.

St. Joe's, which entered the tourney as the sixth seed, will face second-seed Fordham at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Alaina Loguidice, Dana Parks (Vineland) and Bernadette Moran (Archbishop Prendergast) had RBIs for the Hawks.

Temple catcher Stephanie Pasquale and shortstop Sarah Prezioso were named to the all-Atlantic Ten first team.

La Salle pitcher Alicia Aughton was named to the conference all-rookie team.

BASEBALL: Ursinus centerfielder Ben Gresh (Pottsgrove) was named first-team all-Centennial Conference.

Rowan infielder Kevin McMenamin (Maple Shade) was chosen rookie of the year by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association on its Division II/III All-State Team.

Second baseman Brandon Winkler (Paul VI) and shortstop Marc Magliaro were selected to the first team.

GYMNASTICS: Temple junior Alex Tighe qualified for the 2012 USA gymnastics national championships to be held in St. Louis, Mo., June 7 and June 9 after qualifying in Colorado Springs on Saturday.

Although Tighe is allowed to compete on all six men's events, he will perform on floor exercise, pommel horse, parallel bars and horizontal bar, staying off rings and vault.

GOLF: Ivy League champion Penn has been seeded 13th for the NCAA Men's Golf Championship regionals and will compete in Bowling Green, Ky.

The Quakers, who won the title in a three-hole sudden-death playoff over Dartmouth on April 29, will begin three days of regional competition on May 17 at The Club at Olde Stone.

The top five teams in each region and the low individual not on any of those five teams will advance to the NCAA finals, which begin May 29 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Paul Tighe of Wilmington University was the top individual at the Division II Atlantic Regional after shooting a 72-73-72-217 on the East Course of the Hershey Country Club.

Wilmington won its first-ever regional team title after carding a three-round total of 910 Indiana University of Pennsylvania was second with a 916.

TRACK & FIELD: Rowan sprinter and hurdler Melirah Searcy was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference women's rookie of the year, and the Profs' Ringo Adamson, a 1983 graduate of the university, was chosen the NJAC coach of the year.
