Rowan falls, 1-0, in regional softball finals

Rowan, which defeated Moravian, 1-0, Sunday morning to make the championship game, finished 39-9.

Both Profs' losses in the double-elimination were to Montclair, including a 3-2 defeat in eight innings on Saturday.

Montclair sophomore Alex Hill (30-4) allowed just three hits in the complete game shutout while striking out 10.

LeAnne Miller (21-3) took the loss despite giving up just three hits herself.

The Vineland grad was named to the all-tournament team along with Rowan catcher Nicolina Veneziano.

Jamie Minix (Kingsway) threw five innings for the win over Moravian, with Miller tossing the final two innings.

Stephanie Labas (Millville) and Katie Trotter (Williamstown) each drove in runs.

BASEBALL: Kevin Christy set a La Salle career record for strikouts on Sunday and pitched the Explorers past St. Joseph's, 5-1, at the Hawks' field in Merion Station.

The senior righthander, a graduate of North Penn High, fanned five Hawks to raise his career total to 223.

Kevin Fuqua ended his career last spring with 222.

Christy (2-4) scattered five hits over six innings, walking none and giving up one earned run. He also lowered his ERA to 2.67.

George Smith Jr., singled, doubled and drove in two runs for the Explorers (20-29, 7-14 Atlantic Ten).

St. Joe (22-28, 12-8) scored in the bottom of the sixth on doubles by Greg Kumpel and Brian O'Keefe.

MEN'S LACROSSE: Cabrini's NCAA tournament road show will continue on Wednesday, when the sixth-ranked Cavaliers (17-2) face No 1-ranked Salisbury (20-0) at 7 p.m. at the Sea Gulls' field in Salisbury, Md.

Cabrini won its 16th straight on Saturday night by downing No. 11 Dickinson, 12-7, in the game at Bibble Field in Carlisle, Pa., to make Wednesday's Division III quarterfinals.

Bobby Thorpe (Cherokee) scored three goals for the Cavs in the win at Dickinson (15-4) and teammate Corey Elmer (Conrad Weiser) added two goals and two assists.

The Red Devils got goals from Matt Cherry (Radnor) and Tyler White (Penn Charter).

Salisbury defeated Goucher (18-2) by a 12-4 score on Saturday night.
