'Ice Breaker' at Penn State
Fans will have the chance to get their first glimpse of Penn State's first NCAA Division I ice hockey team when it hosts a "Midnight Ice Breaker" practice the night of Penn State's annual homecoming parade on Oct. 5. The event, which will be held at Greenberg Ice Pavilion, will be open to the public and free of charge.

Doors will open at 11 p.m. Practice will run from midnight until 1 a.m. Following practice, fans are welcome to join the team on the ice for a free public skate. Fans who have their own skates are encouraged to bring them.
The practice will be the team's first official session as NCAA rules stipulate Oct. 6 as the first day for organized team practices.
Men's soccer. Temple (2-3-1) blasted a season-high 28 shots in its 2-1 win over visiting St. Peter's. Senior Cody Calafiore scored his first goal of the season to put the Owls on the board in the 13th minute. Chas Wilson (Salesianum) tallied what would eventually prove to be the game-winner.
Penn picked up its first win, over Fairleigh Dickinson at the Princeton Invitational. Three different players scored for the Red and Blue, but it was the overall work of goalkeeper Max Kurtzman (Haverford School) which kept Penn ahead throughout the match. The win keeps the Quakers from extending what had been an 0-6-0 start.
Women's soccer. Opening its last weekend of nonconference play, Temple fell to Sienna, 1-0, in Loudonville, N.Y. Temple dropped to 2-6-2. The Owls have played in seven games this season that have been decided by one goal or less.
Kaitlyn Moore headed home Brianna Rano's corner kick with just 3.9 seconds left in regulation to propel Penn to a 1-0 win over defending Ivy League champion Harvard at Rhodes Field. Penn improved to 4-3-0 overall, while Harvard fell to 3-3-1; it was the Ivy League opener for both teams. The winner of this game has won the Ivy title the three previous years.
Field hockey. No. 6 Penn State (9-2, 1-0 Big Ten) opened the Big Ten season by beating No. 24 Indiana, 7-1, to give head coach Charlene Morett her 400th Penn State win.
