TCU suspends Pachall

TCU QUARTERBACK Casey Pachall was suspended indefinitely Thursday, hours after he was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated - his second brush with trouble this year and one that clouds the 15th-ranked Horned Frogs' push for a Big 12 title.

TCU QUARTERBACK Casey Pachall was suspended indefinitely Thursday, hours after he was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated - his second brush with trouble this year and one that clouds the 15th-ranked Horned Frogs' push for a Big 12 title.

Coach Gary Patterson announced the suspension, saying his quarterback "obviously needs help."

Redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin is expected to start for TCU (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) in its conference home opener against Iowa State (3-1, 0-1) on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Pachall was arrested just after midnight when he was pulled over after running a stop sign near TCU's Fort Worth, Texas. Police said his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Paschall, a 2-year starter for the Horned Frogs, was released from jail on $1,000 bond.

Pachall's arrest came 8 months after he admitted to police that he smoked marijuana and failed a drug test just 2 weeks before his roommate was arrested in a drug sting operation.

UCLA linebacker Jordan Zumwalt went through a full practice and will play Saturday at California, though he will not start, coach Jim Mora said.

Zumwalt is recovering from a motor scooter accident that caused a bad gash on his forehead and forced him to miss the No. 25 Bruins' win over Colorado. Damien Holmes, who replaced Zumwalt last week, will start. But, Zumwalt is expected to play.

* Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham and teammates Levi Copelin and Torey Boozerm all freshmen, have been suspended for Saturday's home game against Vanderbilt after they were arrested by campus police for allegedly smoking marijuana near the school's football stadium.

Copelin and Boozer are expected to redshirt this season, but Green-Beckham, the nation's No. 1-ranked recruit, is a significant contributor who caught an 80-yard touchdown pass in last week's win over Central Florida.

Freshmen defensive lineman Harold Brantley and tight end Brandon Holifield, who were in the SUV driven by Green-Beckham but not arrested, have also been suspended for the game.

* Shawn Eichorst resigned as Miami's athletic director for the same role at Nebraska, which gave him a 5-year contract to become Tom Osborne's replacement with the Cornhuskers.

Eichorst starts as special assistant to the chancellor Oct. 9 at Nebraska, where the 75-year-old Osborne announced late last month that he will retire Jan. 1.

* Arkansas coach John L. Smith has amended his bankruptcy filing, listing $40.7 million in debts - up from $25.7 million just last month.

The filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Little Rock shows Smith has $1.3 million in assets. His previous filing listed $25.7 million in debts and $1.2 million in assets.

Smith filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Sept. 6 after a series of bad real estate investments.
