"It worked out well," said head coach Charlene Morett. "I thought that we had a much better second half. I know that we had two goals in the first half, but I think the team stepped up. . . . It was great to get a shutout on the road."
Senior Kelsey Amy scored the game-winner, her 20th goal of the season.
La Salle gave nationally ranked Massachusetts all it could handle in the first half, outshooting the visitors, but ultimately fell, 4-1, at DeVincent Field. Junior Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) scored La Salle's only goal.
Women's soccer. Villanova defeated No. 11 Georgetown, 1-0, in its final game of the regular season. Freshman Emily Damstrom finished a feed from senior Heidi Sabatura to the far post in the 28th minute for the game-winning goal. With the win, the Wildcats nearly assured themselves a home contest in the first round of the Big East championship beginning Thursday and a possible bye into the quarterfinals depending on the outcome of conference games Saturday.
Men's soccer. Leading Atlantic Ten Conference newcomer Butler (3-6-5, 1-3-1) by three goals with just over 15 minutes to play, Temple began to get a sense of security and looked as if it was well on its way to three more points in the Atlantic Ten Conference standings. But the Bulldogs rallied all the way back, scoring three goals in less than 10 minutes to knot the match at three and force overtime. The teams settled for a 3-3 draw after two extra sessions.
Temple is 7-4-3 and remains unbeaten in league play at 3-0-2.
Richmond used a first-half goal and held on as host La Salle fell, 1-0, in Atlantic Ten action. La Salle fell to 8-4-2, 2-2, while Richmond improved to 5-9, 1-4.
