A10 honors for La Salle coach Paul Royal

The Atlantic Ten Conference named La Salle's Paul Royal the women's soccer coach of the year Wednesday for the second consecutive season.

Junior captain Courtney Niemiec, a Little Flower High graduate, was the A-10's defensive player of the year. Fellow Explorers joining her on the first team were midfielder Renee Washington and goalkeeper Gabrielle Pakhtigian (North Penn). Forward Kelsey Haycook and defender Jourdan McVicker were second-team selections.

McVicker, Pakhtigian, and Washington also earned all-academic honors.

St. Joseph's junior Mo Hawkins (Cardinal Dougherty) was the A-10's midfielder of the year for the second straight season. Hawks goalkeeper Christine Neal joined her on the first team, and freshman Olivia McEachern (Timber Creek) was named to the A-10 rookie team.

Temple's Shauni Kerkhoff and Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) were selected for the rookie team.

Field hockey. Temple senior Katie Briglia was chosen to play in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Senior Game Nov. 17 at Old Dominion.

The Owls cocaptain has scored six goals and leads Temple with 11 assists this season.

Neumann senior Chelsa O'Donnell was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference first team and all-sportsmanship squad. Second-team honors went to Neumann goalie Lindsey Kasecamp.

Lafayette cocaptain Deanna DiCroce (Central Bucks West) ended her senior season with a hat trick and an assist against Lehigh and a goal and two assists against Georgetown to earn Patriot League offensive-player-of-the-week honors.

Men's soccer. A 1-1 draw Friday between La Salle and St. Joseph's gave Villanova the Philadelphia Soccer Six championship.

Temple freshman Jared Martinelli was the player and rookie of the week after a five-point effort in two wins, and St. Joseph's senior goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi (Ocean City) was the defender of the week. He made 22 saves against La Salle and Fordham.

Men's swimming. La Salle freshman Johan Roth was named the Atlantic Ten rookie of the week for the second consecutive week.
